Help Keep Alleys Open and Functional

This notice serves as informational only regarding public right-of-ways, which includes streets and alleys. The City of Cornelius manages and maintains the alleyways in the City.  Residents may not be aware that we have used these alleyways to place utility pipes underground, which includes storm, sewer and water lines.  These lines sometimes need to be maintained or replaced, which is why we don’t allow the alleys to be used for personal gardens, storage, fences, walls or parking spots.  We may need to access the underground lines quickly, so these right-of-ways must be kept free at all times. 

Our Cornelius Municipal Code 9.10.090 specifically prohibits blocking alleys or using them for personal reasons.  The City will continue to maintain these alleyways so they can be accessed by police, fire and public works employees as needed.
