Hot Weather Alert: Cooling Centers Open in Cornelius & Forest Grove

Hot weather, with a heat index of 95°F or more, has been forecasted for Wednesday through Saturday, prompting the City of Forest Grove and the City of Cornelius to open Cooling Centers for all community members needing relief from the heat.

Forest Grove will extend the Library hours from 9:30 am to 8:00 pm, Wednesday through Saturday, at 2114 Pacific Avenue, Forest Grove.

Cornelius will extend their Library hours at 1370 N. Adair Street, Cornelius, as follows:

  • 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday August 11-12.
  • 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Friday August 13
  • 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday August 14, 2021

According to the National Weather Service, heat is one of the leading causes of weather-related deaths in the United States.  During hot weather, heat exhaustion and heat stroke can occur.  Tips for staying safe during excessive heat:

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty, and avoid alcoholic beverages.
  • Slow down and reduce strenuous activities, especially outdoors.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing.
  • Spend time in cool, air-conditioned spaces.
  • Take a cool bath or shower.
